A statewide meeting of everyone who will be involved in enrolling West Virginians in the Medicaid expansion program or qualified health plans in the marketplace has been scheduled for October 23, 2014.

Who: In-person assisters, certified application counselors (based both in community health centers and hospitals), navigators, DHHR employees and community assisters

When: Thursday, October 23rd from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Where: The Columbia Gas Building, 1700 MacCorkle Avenue, SE Ė Kanawha City section of Charleston

We are pleased to announce that Kathleen Stoll, Deputy Executive Director of Families USA, will be the Keynote speaker. Kathleen brings a wealth of experience on health care issues and can provide a national perspective to West Virginians highly successful Medicaid expansion enrollment.

Jeremiah Samples with the Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) and Ellen Potter, Director of Health Policy for the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner, will provide up-to-date state level information.

There will be a panel discussion from people like you who were in the trenches in enrollment: Jason Whipkey of Clay-Battelle Community Health Services, Sarah Koontz of Shenandoah Valley Medical Systems and Leah Fleshman of Advanced Patient Advocacy. This panel discussion will be led by Renate Pore, Director of Health Policy for West Virginians for Affordable Health Care.

Naomi Bays of TSG Consulting will make a presentation on how to promote your events and activities through social media, TV, radio and newspapers.

Perhaps most importantly there will be time to meet and discuss your planned activities for the next open enrollment period with other enrollment assisters in region. One of the findings of the ten regional debriefing meetings held throughout the state this spring and summer was that frequently people didnít personally know who was also involved in enrollment in their county or in surrounding counties.

There is no fee for attending this meeting, and we will even provide you lunch. You do need to register, however. If you have questions, please contact Perry Bryant at

This meeting is sponsored by: TSG Consulting, Maximus, West Virginia Primary Care Association, and West Virginians for Affordable Health Care.
